Champions Trophy 2025: India's pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah is set miss India's group stage games of the 2025 Champions Trophy beginning next month. The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai and then face arch-rivals Pakistan on February 23. India's third and final league stage game of Group A will take place against New Zealand on March 2 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. As per Indian Express, Bumrah will get fit until the knockout stage of the tournament as he is facing some injury issues with his back. According to a BCCI source, Bumrah is expected to be fully fit only by the first week of March.
"He (Bumrah) will be going to NCA for his rehabilitation. The initial report says he doesn’t have a fracture but has swelling on his back. So the NCA will monitor his recovery, and he will be there for three weeks. But even after that, he will have to play a match or two, even if they are practice games organised to check his match fitness," said the source.
The BCCI selectors are deliberating whether to include Jasprit Bumrah in the 15-member squad or list him among the reserve players. The board has until February 12 to make adjustments to the provisional squad.
The 31-year-old fast bowler from Ahmedabad, who emerged as the leading wicket-taker in international cricket last year, has missed several major ICC events in the past, including the 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2023 World Test Championship Final, due to a back injury. Bumrah, however, showcased exceptional form in the recently concluded five-match Test series against Australia. He played all five games, claiming an impressive 32 wickets.
India are expected to announce their provisional squad by January 12. A report suggests that BCCI will request ICC to extend the deadline to announce the 15-member provisional squad. Bumrah has been a key performer with ball for India. At one point, Shami is returning after the 2023 ODI World Cup final and now uncertainty about Bumrah's fitness is raising concerns among Indian Cricket fans.
